BALLADS & LEGENDS: including songs by
Sibelius, Gershwin and Cole Porter

A delightful selection of favourite Lieder, including the urgent drama of Erlkönig, alongside gently lilting songs in which Vaughan Williams conjures up the British landscape followed by the imagination of Ravel in his songs characterising birds. A new commission from NZ composer Gareth Farr will set to music short poems about our own iconic birds, the Takahē, Dotterel, Tūī, and the extinct Huia. Julien and James will finish by exploring a selection of entertaining ballads that range from the swooning nostalgia of A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square to Cole Porter’s laugh-out-loud The Tale of the Oyster.
